The tangy taste of the tamarinds and the sweetness of dates make the chutney a perfect addition to the chaats.

Ingredients:
Dates: 1 cup washed and seeds removed
Tamarind (Imli): ¼ cup washed
Sugar: 4-5 tbsp (Optional if you want a more tangy taste)
Black salt as per taste
Roasted cumin seeds: 2 tsp
Asafetida: a pinch
Red chilly powder: ½ tsp
Method:
1. In a pan heat tamarind, dates, sugar, chilly powder, asafetida, cumin powder and salt with 2 cups of water. Simmer for more or less 20 minutes.
2. Let it cool.
3. Then grind and sieve it.
4. Store in freezer and use as and when required.
Tips:
1. Instead of sugar you can use grated jaggery.
