Bhakris are very simple and quick to make.
Let us start cooking!!!
Ingredients:
Wheat flour: 1 cup
Ghee: 1 tbsp + as required for applying on the bhakris
Salt as per taste
Water: ½ cup less 1 tbsp (lukewarm)
Method:
1. In a bowl mix together wheat flour, salt, and ghee. It will be crumbly. With the help of lukewarm water knead a stiff dough.
2. Let the dough rest for half an hour.
3. Smoothen the dough and make 6 equal balls from it.
4. Take one ball of dough. Roll into a circle with the help of dry whole wheat flour. Bhakri is always a bit thicker.
5. Heat a tawa.
6. Keep the bhakri upon it. Let it cook on slow flame until few brown spots start to appear. Then flip the bhakri. Let it cook on slow flame only. Now with the help of a muslin cloth or a potato masher press the bhakri evenly from all the sides. This ensures that the bhakri is cooked evenly from inside as it is a bit thicker. Again flip and press it. The bhakri is done when you see brown spots on both the sides of it and is evenly cooked.
7. Take it from the tawa and keep on a plate. Apply ghee all over the bhakri.
8. Serve hot with steaming hot kadhi.
9. Delicious “Whole Wheat Flour Bhakri (Gehun ke atte ki bhakri)” is ready!
Tips:
1. Make sure the dough is stiff. It helps in making crispy bhakris.
2. Carom seeds, cumin seeds, etc can be added for extra flavor.
